Colour Trap
Colour Trap asks a small question that is surprisingly easy to answer the wrong way. A colour name appears on screen, but the colour of the letters may say something else. You need to decide whether the word and its ink match.
For example, Red written in red is a match. Red written in blue is different. You have thirty seconds to make as many correct decisions as you can.
How Colour Trap works
Choose Match when the written colour name agrees with the colour of the letters. Choose Different when they disagree. The next prompt appears immediately after each answer.
A correct answer adds one point. A wrong answer removes one point, but the total cannot drop below zero.
The round ends after thirty seconds and displays your final score. Prompts are random, so the same word or colour can appear several times in a row. Do not assume that a match must be followed by a mismatch.
Controls
Press Start to begin the timer. Click or tap Match or Different for each prompt.
On a keyboard, the left arrow means Match and the right arrow means Different. These keys do not choose a particular colour.
When time runs out, press Play again to start another thirty-second round.
Tips
Read the word, look at the ink, and compare the two before answering. Reading the word alone is the mistake this game is built around.
Keep your fingers near the two buttons, or use the arrow keys on a computer. Avoid switching between mouse and keyboard halfway through a round.
If you make an error, focus on the new prompt. Trying to make up the lost point with a rushed answer can cost another one. A steady pace is more useful than a fast run of guesses.
Notes from playing it
This is a colour comparison game, so being able to distinguish the displayed colours is part of the challenge. The words by themselves do not provide enough information to answer.
There is no pause button once a round starts. Begin when you have half a minute free, and use the time shown above the prompt to judge how much is left.
A repeated word is not a repeated answer. Its ink may have changed, so check each new prompt even when the text looks familiar.
